Chadderton lies immediately west of Oldham and forms a substantial town within the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham. Chadderton remains closely connected to neighbouring urban areas, yet retains a recognisable identity built around its communities, parks and industrial heritage.

Schools, local shopping parades, sports clubs and employment areas are distributed across the town rather than concentrated in one centre. This dispersed layout gives individual neighbourhoods a strong everyday identity and helps Chadderton function as more than simply an extension of Oldham.
